It's summer, we are no longer the care-free children left to run free for eight weeks; The bills don't stop because it's summer, do they? Now that we are the adults, summer may not feel as fun as it did in our youth. For some, summer is an extra stressful time; kids must be kept busy, work doesn't stop, events and vacations start calling our name, but we're too busy or overwhelmed to respond.
Everyone’s outside. Everyone’s posting.
Everyone’s planning the next move.
And you? You’re tired.
You might feel like you should be doing more—getting sun, being social, creating, moving, hosting.
But that pressure can wear you down fast.
That feeling? It’s summer burnout.
I know because I'm experiencing it Myself.
Here's what helps me cope with it:
I don’t apologize for saying no. Summer invites are optional, not obligations.
I cool down emotionally and physically with water rituals, deep breaths, and naps.
I replace “do more” with “feel more.” That means noticing when I’m overwhelmed and choosing rest.
I unplug and journal when my brain feels cluttered.
I give myself permission to not enjoy summer. It’s just a season—not a personality.
👉🏾 This month, I’m reclaiming my energy, one small boundary at a time
8 Ways you can take care of yourself physically, mentally and emotionally to avoid summer burnout are below.
Hydration = Mood Regulator
Dehydration can mimic anxiety or depression symptoms.
Add fruit to water, set hydration alarms.
Regulate Sleep Patterns
Longer daylight can disrupt circadian rhythm.
Create a wind-down routine; turn off screens early.
Honor Emotional Overload
Too much activity, noise, or stimulation can cause burnout.
Normalize “emotional hangovers” after events.
Say No to Protect Your Energy
Boundaries are vital. “No” is a complete sentence.
Find Cooling Activities for the Nervous System
Water play, cold showers, floating meditation, iced herbal teas.
Grounding Outdoors
Walk barefoot in grass, sit under trees, notice nature’s rhythm.
Digital Detox for Mental Clarity
Limit social media scrolling (especially during travel envy season).
Use Journaling for Mental Unpacking
Journaling helps with emotional release, clarity, gratitude, and self-soothing
