Rediscovering Yourself: Embracing Your True Identity

Rediscovering your authentic self is a powerful step in creating the life you desire and deserve. This healing process involves shedding the expectations of others, understanding your core values, and exploring who you truly are beneath societal roles. It is possible to live a happy life full of purpose, passion and prosperity when you do.

Why Rediscovering Yourself is Vital for Personal Growth

Living authentically positively impacts mental health, well-being, and overall life satisfaction. When we align our actions with who we truly are, we reduce internal conflict and self-doubt. Rediscovering yourself allows you to make choices based on genuine desires rather than external expectations. It's extremely hard to create the life that you want when you're focused on trying to live up to the expectations of others. You must decide your core values and move in ways that align with them.

Rediscovering yourself is a foundation for personal growth because it enables you to set realistic, aligned goals and live in a way that genuinely resonates with you. Self-awareness is a tool for growth, helping you identify areas for change and empowering you to act from a place of self-understanding. That's why daily, on our social media platforms, I ask introspective questions of you. I take pride in challenging you daily to look within, question your why's and shift when things are not aligned with your values.

The Difference Between Your True Identity and External Expectations

Have you ever caught yourself trying to overextend yourself to make someone else happy? Haven't we all at some point? I definitely have. Often, people feel pressured to conform to roles defined by others – whether that’s family, friends, or society. True identity, however, comes from within, guided by personal values, passions, and purpose. A true identity allows you to live confidently and make decisions that feel right for you, rather than merely conforming.

I've made significant life shifts at least 3 times, Each time, I was warned that it wouldn't work out, the risk I was taking was too much. or that I didn't have what it took to create a new life for Myself. Each time, I proved them wrong; not out of spite, but with consistency and practice and patience. I know that what is meant for Me IS meant for Me and I've achieved the goals I set out to achieve one at a time. Each win required a new level of growth and a new version of Me. Growth is a beautiful thing.

Your core values are the guiding principles that shape your choices and perspectives. Rediscovering yourself means identifying these core values and embracing them, rather than adopting values imposed by others. My core value is integrity, you hear Me talk about it all the time. I am a true believer that when you move in integrity, things will always work out as they should. My other top values include compassion and perseverance. How do you figure out your core values? Journaling can be helpful in this process – try exploring questions like, "What matters most to me?" or "What do I want my life to stand for?".

Embracing your true identity involves honoring those interests and passions that may have been pushed aside to fit into certain roles or expectations. For Me, one of those things has been embracing My love of coloring again as an adult. I really want to create art and coloring is the most comfortable I've gotten so far. Reflect on what activities or hobbies bring you joy and make time to incorporate these into your life. Rediscovering these aspects of yourself is key to reconnecting with what makes you feel fulfilled.

What Steps Can You Take to Start Embracing Who You Truly Are?

Self-reflection is essential for rediscovery. Take time to journal on questions like, “What do I want out of life?” or “What values resonate with me?” Being honest with yourself in these reflections will help you start forming a picture of your true self. This daily practice offers clarity and space to explore who you are without judgment. And no, this is not Me just trying to get you to journal again :)

Additionally, Practicing mindfulness helps you become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and reactions without outside influence. Through mindfulness, you can begin to recognize which beliefs and desires feel genuinely yours and which might be influenced by others. Meditation and quiet time can offer you the chance to reconnect with yourself.

As you become more aware of your values and identity, start making decisions that reflect this. For instance, if freedom is a core value, consider how you can introduce more freedom into your life. Or, if you value creativity, allow yourself to explore creative pursuits without worrying about what others think. These small, intentional choices will help reinforce your true identity over time.
