Our Children Are Hurting - A Message from an 8-Year-Old Sex Assault Survivor

It was My intention to post this last month during #sexualassualtawarenessmonth but My schedule got out of hand. I couldn't let the first week of May go past without sharing this amazing story with you.

Last month, I was contacted by a mother who wanted to share her 8-year-old daughters journey of reclaiming her life from sexual assault I was so impressed and inspired by this mom's efforts to help her daughter heal.

Below is her story, typed after she hand wrote it as you see above.

My name is Talia O, I am 8 years old. When I was 2 years old one of my first cousins that was only 4 years old at the time started touching on me sexually, by the time I was 4 years old I started acting out in school sexually which alerted my mother to start asking questions and trying to find answers.

One night my mom and I talked and I told her that my cousin was touching on me sexually when no one was around then she reported it and things was investigated. I started going to John Hopkins for out patient therapy, my mom didn’t think they helped me much because my sexualized behaviors was still happening.

My mom sent me to KKI where I was diagnosed with ADHD/PTSD as of today I take 2 different medications to keep me on track from having thoughts of acting out sexually. This is my story I am a survivor of sexual abuse.

I wish that I had been as strong as Talia at that age when My abuser started to molest Me. I'm so proud of her. I recently spoke about sexual assault at an event, check out the video below.
